A shelter dog in Oklahoma entered a 5K, won the entire race, and then got adopted!! Elliott had been waiting at the Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society longer than many of the other dogs. At a local “Bark in the Park” event, shelter dogs could join runners in a 5K, and Elliott crossed the finish line first. His unexpected win turned him into a little local celebrity. A family met him at the adoption tent afterward, fell in love, and decided they couldn’t leave without him. Now, instead of racing back to the shelter, Elliott is spending his days running around the yard with his new family. The event also helped other cats and dogs find homes and raised more than $19,000 for local animal organizations. Turns out, the best thing waiting at the finish line was home.
